Potted or Planted

“Let your roots grow down into him and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.”— Colossians 2:7 (NLT)
Reflection:
When God plants you, He doesn’t place you in something temporary. He buries you in promise. The difference between being potted and planted is permanence. Pots are portable — you can move them when things get uncomfortable. But being planted means you’re rooted — even if storms come, even if you don’t see fruit yet, you stay because you trust the soil He’s chosen.
Sometimes God removes you from familiar places, people, or patterns because He’s trying to grow you deeper. He’s clearing the land of distractions and idols that have kept your roots shallow. Growth will cost you something — but baby, it’s birthing something greater than you could imagine.
Journal Prompts:
What areas of my life feel “potted” — temporary, shallow, or comfortable?
Where do I feel God calling me to dig deeper roots, even if it’s uncomfortable?
What relationships, habits, or ideas has God been uprooting from my soil lately?
How can I protect my growth this season — spiritually, mentally, and emotionally?
What does being planted in God look like for me right now?
Praise & Worship Song:
“Firm Foundation (He Won’t)” – Maverick City Music
A reminder that your roots are anchored in the unshakable — even when the winds shift, your foundation is still Christ.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for planting me.Even when I don’t understand the pruning or the process, remind me that You are the gardener who sees the full harvest.Pull up every root that’s not from You — fear, doubt, complacency — and replant me in Your purpose.Teach me to stay, to trust, and to grow deeper in You.Let my life be proof that being planted in You always leads to peace, purpose, and fruit. In Jesus’ name, amen.
