When Faith Doesn’t Match the Season

My first memory of faith was simple… quiet… childlike. Hebrews 11:1 has been my favorite scripture for as long as I can remember. It held a place in my heart before I even understood what “substance” or “evidence” meant. And Joseph — Joseph the Dreamer — has always been my favorite biblical character.

My fondest memories of faith were moments of believing in things I could not see. I would dream so big, so boldly, with a confidence that didn’t match anything happening in my life at the time… and yet, I just knew it would come to pass. That was my foundation — childlike faith and a heart full of dreams.

But recently… my faith has been tested in ways that feel unexplainable, uncomfortable, and stretching. The kind of faith you don’t post about. The kind of faith that makes you sit with yourself and God in the quiet and ask,

“Lord… do I still trust You for what I cannot see?”

So let me ask you: When was the last time you tried faith? Not faith for a car. Not faith for a house. But faith for the unseen. Faith for the promise that doesn’t match the picture. Faith for the thing that makes you uncomfortable to believe in.

Joseph would dream dreams that didn’t make sense in his current situation. He dreamed like faith wasn’t just a hope — but a language he spoke fluently.

Because faith doesn’t happen overnight. And real faith is grown, stretched, refined, and matured over time.

This week I’ve felt myself working in positions and stepping into areas where faith requires time. Faith requires patience. Faith requires endurance.

Faith is knowing the children are still coming even when the doctors say no.

Faith is knowing the house is yours even while you’re sleeping on someone’s couch.

Faith is going to work every day but knowing — deep in your belly — that you’re the future owner of a Fortune 500 company.

Faith is brewed, like those SunKissed teas back home — the closer it gets to the light, the more vibrant it becomes. The more you let it steep, the stronger it becomes.

Me, being the dreamer that I am, I can speak from experience about mustard seed faith. The kind of faith that starts so small — almost invisible — but has enough power to shift a lifetime. The faith that feels attainable in one season and almost unreachable in another.

So how do you keep believing when it gets worse before it gets better? You read. You reflect. You pray. You keep choosing God even when it feels heavy. You create an equation for faith that keeps your soul steady: Faith = Trust + Time + Surrender.

And then you remember: God is the ultimate director. Better than Spielberg. Better than any visionary we could name. He sees the entire ending — you’re just living through the scenes.

When the Dream Doesn’t Match the Season

Joseph was given a dream long before he had the maturity, resources, or position to carry it. God showed him a glimpse of the after while he was still living in the not yet.

And isn’t that just like God? He’ll show you the palace while you’re still in the field. He’ll whisper purpose before the pit. He’ll hand you glimpses of glory while you're still surrounded by people who can’t see it in you.

Joseph was misunderstood, mishandled, betrayed, forgotten — but never unseen. Every pit, every prison, every pause… was positioning.

Faith Is Not Passive — It’s Posture

Faith is standing in seasons that don’t match the promise and saying, “God, I still believe You.”

Faith is building a table for other women — even when you didn’t have one. Faith is showing up soft, present, poured out, because you know God is walking you into a chapter that requires healed hands and a steadier heart.

Faith is Joseph waking up in prison still interpreting dreams. Faith is doing what you were called to do even when the environment doesn’t reflect the promise.

When Faith Grows You Up

Sometimes God takes the long route because He’s not just trying to deliver the promise — He’s trying to develop you.

Before Joseph ever held authority, he had to learn humility. Before he ever wore the robe of leadership, he had to take off the robe of entitlement. Before he spoke to nations, he had to survive betrayal without becoming bitter.

Faith grew him up. Faith is growing you up too.

A Soft Landing at the Table

This week at the table, I want you to breathe deeply and give yourself permission to trust again. To hope again. To believe again.

Even if your current season looks nothing like your promise…Even if you feel physically alone…God is so present. Closer than breath. Working behind every closed door, every delay, every detour.

Faith is the substance. Faith is the evidence. Faith is the soft place God gives you to land when everything else feels uncertain.

Pull up a chair, sis. Let’s sit with faith this week.
